In 2025, approximately 28% of the population in Cyprus resided in homes with improved energy efficiency, according to data from Eurostat. This figure is notably higher than the average of 23.9% for the European Union. The increase in energy performance is seen as a positive trend; however, the data reveals significant disparities in home energy upgrades between different socioeconomic groups in the country.
Reports indicate that Cyprus has one of the largest gaps in energy efficiency improvements within the EU, particularly between vulnerable populations and more affluent households. About 30.3% of those not at risk of poverty were living in upgraded homes, while only 10.8% of those considered vulnerable reported similar improvements. This disparity highlights the uneven distribution of resources and opportunities for energy upgrades, raising concerns about equity in energy policy and access to financial support for home improvements.
